WATER DAMAGE

Water Damage & Restoration

When you have had a water damage event, time is of the essence. Immediately call Pacific Pro Painting to schedule an appointment. Here are some scenarios you may face that require professional remediation for water damage:

1

Flood damage.

2

Leaks (from pipes, appliances, water heaters, etc).

3

Overflow from toilets, tubs or sinks.

4

Seepage flooding the basement.

Those are all fairly normal and expected. Flood water is always a health hazard as it can contain microbes, toxic chemicals and other unexpected surprises. But some cases are more problematic than others.

Two especially problematic scenarios are water damage from firefighting efforts and from backed up sewage. Whatever the scenario, while you wait for the professionals to arrive you should follow these guidelines:

Safety First

1

People sometimes underestimate how dangerous a water event can be. There is a very high risk of slipping and falling when things are wet and a non-trivial risk of electrical hazards.

2

If it is a residential setting, determine if it is safe to remain in the house at all. If not, evacuate and stay elsewhere.

3

Whether you remain in the home or not, only engage in safe activities. Do not take risks.

4

Protect your back and guard against possible muscle strains. Wet materials can be surprisingly heavy if you aren't used to dealing with them.

5

Stay out of all rooms where the ceiling is sagging.

What To Do

1

Remove loose throw rugs.

2

Remove all valuable items and any loose objects.

3

Mop or blot to remove excess water.

4

Remove lamps and tabletop items, then wipe down wood furniture.

5

Remove cushions and prop up wet upholstered items.

6

If you must leave furniture on a wet carpet, put wood blocks or aluminum foil under the furniture legs.

7

Turn on the AC or fans to start the drying process.

What Not To Do

1

Do not use a household vacuum to try to suck up the water.

2

Do not leave colored items on wet carpet, such as books, magazines or throw rugs.

3

Do not turn on any electrical appliances or the TV.

4

If the ceiling is wet, do not turn on ceiling fans or lights.

You can count on us to get the job done right. We will also monitor the situation and document everything, which you will need for purposes of filing insurance claims.
